This week's Parsha begins with G-D speaking to Moshe and reminding Moshe of the covenant that had been entered into between G-D and Israel. In verse 6 we find "6 Therefore, say to the Israelites: 'I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. As we study this text it is a clear reminder that G-D's purpose was not to make our life more difficult nor to just give us a list of rules and regulations to keep us busy. Instead His purpose was to deliver us from bondage. To make us free. Egypt in Scripture is a type or symbol of the bondage of sin. When we live outside the blessings and promises of G-D we are in a spiritual Egypt. Yeshua came that we could be free from the bondage of sin and shame. He made a way for us not only to travel into the wilderness but to complete the journey by entering into the Promised Land. We do not have to live in the World of Sin and we also do not have to stay in the wilderness; we can and should be set free completely. Our complete deliverance, according to Scripture, is a demonstration that G-D is our G-D, something we should rejoice in always.
